End of an Era! Secrets, Betrayals & Broken Bonds – Coronation Street Kills Off 3 ICONIC Characters?

Coronation Street fans have been left heartbroken as a devastated death rocked the cobbles.

Julie Carp (Katy Cavanagh) sadly passed away during a day out at the lakes with her sister Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) following her battle with cancer.

During Monday’s (May 5) episode of the ITV soap, Eileen found Julie collapsed on the ground after she went to collect the pair a cup of tea from the refreshment van.

Before her passing, the episode kicked off with a monologue from Julie as part of a heart-wrenching goodbye video she was recording for her family and friends.

As part of the video, Julie said to the camera: “I’ve had a decent amount of insight into how people’s hearts work.

“I learned about love – usually the hard way, but those are the lessons we learn from most.

“You know, some folk, they don’t believe in the one – rubbish! Because, when you know, my god, you know.”

Julie’s death comes just days after Rovers Return barmaid Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) quit Weatherfield.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan penned: “Thanks @itvcorrie for making me a blubbering mess at this time in the morning on a bank holiday Monday. What an emotional episode. #Corrie.”

Another added: “I was not ready for Julie’s monologue. #Corrie.” A third person said: “Who’s idea was it to put Daisy and Julie’s exits back to back??

The fact that we’re witnessing two huge exits in two back to back episodes is very heavy stuff from #Corrie especially when we know Julie dies from cancer. At least the door was left open for a Daisy return.”

A fourth social media wrote: “Don’t ask me if I’m alright, I’ve just watched Julie Carp die, heartbroken #corrie.”

As Eileen returned home, she sobbed over the passing of her sister. As her son Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) eventually comforted her, a stark reality began to dawn upon the pair.

Todd suggested that it was highly likely that Julie had committed suicide.

With her diagnosis suggesting she had months left to live, her death came out of the blue for her family.

Todd went on to insist that Julie filming a slew of goodbye videos before having tearful “final” conversations with her loved ones was a sure-fire sign that she knew that today would be her final day.

He also said her sending Eileen away for drinks was merely a ploy in order to take her own life.

As Eileen looked on reflectively, the mother and son duo comforted each other as Julie’s death began to sink in.

Actress Katy Cavanagh played the iconic character from 2008 to 2015, before returning in 2025 for her exit.
