Coronation Street fans are buzzing with rumours that a beloved character might be making an unexpected return.
Viewers of the ITV soap are speculating that the Corrie legend could make a comeback – and it’s all thanks to a plot twist involving Betsy Swain.
Betsy, played by Sydney Martin, first graced the cobbles last year. The daughter of DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), she quickly found herself at the heart of several major storylines.
Earlier this year, she was left heartbroken when her boyfriend, Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan), met a tragic end. Her grief was compounded when she was shot in a terrifying incident.
Fans will recall the harrowing scene where Rob Donovan (Marc Bayliss) held Lisa, Tracy (Kate Ford), and Carla Connor (Alison King) hostage, leading to Betsy being shot and losing feeling in her arm.
In a surprising turn of events, it was revealed that Betsy had started to regain sensation in her arm but chose to keep it a secret, exaggerating her injury for sympathy.
However, in Wednesday’s episode (April 30), Betsy’s secret was exposed after Carla caught her using her arm and revealed the truth to her mum.
Now, Corrie fans are abuzz with rumours that a well-known character could be set to stage a dramatic return to the famous street amidst Betsy’s recent shenanigans.
Discussions have been heating up in a Coronation Street Facebook fan group, with one exasperated fan posting: “Betsy is really annoying me! She’s becoming a right madam. Hopefully, someone puts her right soon.”
Speculation includes the possibility of Carla’s former stepson, Simon Barlow (portrayed by Alex Bain), making an appearance. One fan expressed: “Bring Simon back! He would have Carla’s back.”
Another added to the conversation with excitement: “Yesss, I’ve been thinking for a while he’s probably due a return.” Echoing this sentiment, one agreed: “She definitely needs straightening out, and maybe he would be the best option for her.”
Simon, the offspring of Peter Barlow (played by Chris Gascoyne), hasn’t graced the street since 2024 when he made the decision to join his father working on a yacht following Peter’s departure on Boxing Day.
