Todd Grimshaw aired a shocking theory regarding Julie Carp on Coronation Street, with the family in grief following a devastating day.
Julie returned to Weatherfield earlier this year after a decade-long absence, though it wasn’t all good news as she revealed that she had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Subsequent weeks have seen Julie spend her last moments with her family, with tonight’s instalment beginning as she recorded a video message in which she urged everybody to follow their heart for their true love, no matter which shape or form it took.
“Lovers, friends, family – they’re all that matters in the end,” she remarked, before adding that she had been “blessed” to “have loved and been loved”, tearfully concluding the emotional speech by saying that her “job was done”.
As she wiped away the tears, Julie was soon greeted by Eileen Grimshaw as the pair prepared for their trip to the lake, though their plans were initially scuppered as George Shuttleworth forgot about their journey and was unable to give them a lift.
As Julie and Eileen reminisced by the lake, George attempted to contact Eileen via Julie, but noticed she had left her phone at home. As he picked up the device, he viewed a portion of the video that was reserved for Eileen, with Julie urging her half-sister to break up with George.
Eileen, meanwhile, was devastated as she discovered Julie’s motionless body after returning with refreshments. As the paramedics arrived, they informed Eileen that Julie had a ‘Do Not Resuscitate’ order on her person, with a tearful Eileen declaring she had “so much more to say.”
In a heartfelt conversation with George, Eileen remarked that she felt “cheated” by Julie’s passing for all the things that were left “unsaid”, though George comforted her by reasoning that Julie’s final moments were spent in the company of the person she “held most dear”.
George eventually revealed that Julie had left a couple of video messages for Eileen, although he sceptical as to whether viewing them would be the best course of action. After viewing the message, Eileen thanked George for not deleting them.
As George comforted a devastated Brian Packham, Todd spoke with Eileen and shared his belief that Julie planned out her full day knowing it would be her last, expressing his theory that she had taken her own life by the lake.
Julie’s death marks the final appearance of Katy Cavanagh on the ITV soap, with the actor previously playing the character for seven years before departing in 2015. The character’s passing will facilitate the exit of Sue Cleaver’s Eileen, who is due to depart later this year.
