Well, itâs no longer just a rumorâ1883 star and Western film icon Sam Elliott has officially joined the cast of Taylor Sheridanâs Landman. The news was confirmed by Billy Bob Thornton himself, who returns to lead the second season of the hit Paramount+ series.
Elliottâs addition brings even more star power to a lineup that already includes Thornton, Demi Moore, and newly announced cast members Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, and Michelle Randolph. While details about Elliottâs role are still under wraps, Thornton hinted that it will be a main roleâand fans of both Yellowstone and 1883 are already buzzing.
âI go way back with [Sam] to the mid-80s,â Thornton told Deadline. âYes, Iâm old.â

From 1883 to Landman
Elliott is no stranger to the Sheridan universe. He starred as Shea Brennan in 1883, the critically acclaimed prequel to Yellowstone, alongside Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Isabel May. His gritty, heartfelt performance as a haunted wagon train leader won over fans and critics alike, so itâs no surprise Sheridan tapped him once again for a major role in Landman.
About the Series
Created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, Landman pulls back the curtain on the Texas oil boom and those trying to strike it richâwhether theyâre roughnecks or billionaires. Thornton plays Tommy Norris, a hardened oil executive constantly facing challenges from every direction, including his own family and co-workers.
